After 20 years, Odysseus finally returns to Ithaca, where his wife is imprisoned by rival suitors for the throne, and his son is waiting for his hand. To reclaim his family and everything he has lost, Odysseus must rediscover his strength. This is the third time Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche have appeared together in a film. They previously worked together in Wuthering Heights (1992) and The English Patient (1996). Penelope: How Can Men Find War But Never Go Home? Odysseus: For Some, War Is Home. This treatise focused on immersing the viewer in the multifaceted pain and suffering of Penelope and Odysseus as Odysseus returns home to Ithaca, and seemed to explore the challenges of a soldier returning from active duty, including PTSD and other mental health issues, as well as reintegration. the previous life with family and society, the flashes of memories and pain, both the pains endured and the internal change that results from them, which is irreversible. Fiennes brings his own style of portraying suffering to this work – an extension of his great skills from his adjacent depictions of pain and anguish in The Spider and The End of the Affair. Binoche is the perfect choice for the role of Penelope because the viewer can be tricked into feeling and hoping that these two characters will connect in the same way that they were close in The English Patient, and Pasolini uses this to further heighten the tension in this work with those who have vivid memories of the English Patient. This is a great and very important work that must be experienced!
